Spermidine Foods: Where This Compound Shows Up on Your Plate
Spermidine foods are everyday foods that contain this natural polyamine, with wheat germ the best-known example. A survey of older adults linked more food spermidine to better test scores, but that is an association only. The Mindcept sales page names spermidine with no amount.

The short version01
Which spermidine foods are there?
Spermidine foods are plant and fermented foods in which this polyamine has been measured. Wheat germ is the example most often named, and it is the source used in the memory trial extract (Schwarz 2022, Spermidine in older adults (RCT)).
Popular guides also list aged cheese, soy foods and mushrooms. We hold no primary source for food amounts, so we print no numbers. Amounts change with variety, age and cooking.
| Food group | What we can say |
|---|---|
| Wheat germ | Named as a source in the spermidine trial (Schwarz 2022, Spermidine in older adults (RCT)) |
| Aged cheese | Often listed; no amount from our sources |
| Soy foods | Often listed; no amount from our sources |
| Mushrooms | Often listed; no amount from our sources |
Evidence02
Do spermidine foods help memory?
No source shows that spermidine foods help memory. A survey found an association, and an association is not proof.
The survey covered 2,674 U.S. adults aged 60 and older. Those with the highest food spermidine scored better on four thinking tests (Ma 2025, Dietary spermidine and cognition (NHANES)). People who eat these foods may also sleep, move and shop differently.
The NIA points to habits instead: activity, a fiber-rich diet, 7 to 9 hours of sleep and managing blood pressure (NIA, Cognitive health and older adults).
Adults need 7 or more hours of sleep and about 150 minutes of moderate activity a week.
Targets from (CDC, About sleep) and (NIA, Cognitive health and older adults). A self-check, not a test, and no supplement replaces these habits.
Food or pill03
Is a spermidine supplement the same as eating spermidine foods?
A spermidine supplement is not the same as a spermidine food. A capsule holds an extract in a set amount, while a meal brings fiber, protein and many other compounds.
In the 12-month trial, 0.9 mg a day from a wheat germ extract left the main memory result unchanged (Schwarz 2022, Spermidine in older adults (RCT)). That shows what happened with that extract in that group, not what a plate of food does.
Mindcept names spermidine on the sales page with no amount, so a food or trial amount cannot be matched to it.
Your plate04
Should you change your diet for spermidine?
You do not need to change your diet for spermidine. Whole grains, nuts, fruit and vegetables are good fiber sources, and most Americans eat too little fiber (MedlinePlus, Dietary fiber).
Add fiber slowly, because a fast jump can cause gas and cramps (MedlinePlus, Dietary fiber). If you have celiac disease, a wheat allergy or a soy allergy, skip foods that bother you and ask a clinician.
Keep taking prescribed medicine, and ask a doctor or pharmacist before adding a supplement. Memory changes that disrupt daily life deserve a doctor's visit (Mayo Clinic, Memory loss: when to seek help). See the spermidine page and the ingredients overview.
FAQ05
Mindcept questions people ask
What foods are highest in spermidine?
Wheat germ is the best-known source, and guides also name aged cheese, soy foods and mushrooms. We hold no primary source for exact food amounts, so we print none. Amounts vary with variety and preparation.
Does cooking remove spermidine from food?
We found no source in our set that answers this, so we cannot say. Food amounts may change with processing and storage. Treat any specific loss figure you see online as unverified.
Can you get enough spermidine from food?
No daily need is established in our sources, so there is no target to reach. A varied diet with whole grains, legumes and vegetables is the usual advice, and it does not depend on one compound.
Is wheat germ safe for everyone?
No. Wheat germ contains gluten and can trigger wheat allergy or celiac disease. People with those conditions should ask a clinician before eating it or taking a wheat germ extract.
Does Mindcept contain spermidine foods?
Mindcept names spermidine as an ingredient, but its form, source and amount are not printed on the supplied label images. We cannot say whether it comes from wheat germ or another source.
